Champions League Round Up

LIVE-Borussia-Dortmund-2481307

The Champions League returned this week after the international break with the English teams looking to qualify out of their respected groups. The following is a round up of the 3rd week of games starting with Chelsea’s trip to Schalke.

Schalke vs Chelsea - Schalke are one of the biggest teams in Germany and their game against Chelsea was one of the biggest games in the group. Chelsea under the guidance of Jose Mourhino came to the German outfit looking for a win after an impressing 3-1 over Cardiff at the weekend. Chelsea have endured a stop start opening to their Champions League campaign with a opening win against Steaua Bucharest and a home defeat against Swiss champions Basel. This game was touted by many as a must win game for Chelsea and they truely delivered with a 3-0 away victory. Mourinho also stated afterwards “We are in a good position to qualify and we’ll try to finish 1st.” “I told the players after the match with Basel that we did garbage and we have to clean it” Mourinho stated. Judging by Tuesday night reaction the garbage has well and truely been cleared as Chelsea put themselves in a great position to finish. Arsenal vs Borussia Dortmund - The tie of the week was arguably Arsenals home tie against Borussia Dortmund. Arsenal started the game only loosing one game this season against Aston Villa. Borussia Dortmund managed to make it to the Champions League final last year. The game was a close affair with both teams going in at half time level. It was a goal by Robert Lewondawski that gave Dortmund the lead and the match, which left many Arsenal fans disappointed. After the game Arsene Wenger claimed that the team were too “Naive” and that more should have been done to go and win the match.   Manchester United vs Real Sociadad - Manchester United have had a terrible start to the season with a series of horrible results. Manchester United are currently the Premiership champions and losses to West Brom and Manchester City have heaped pressure on new boss David Moyes. Real Sociadad have also endured a stop start campaign in La Liga. The Spanish outfit finished in 4th place last season which exceeded all expectations. However, like Manchester United Real Sociadad had struggled to pick up results before the game. The game started quickly with Manchester United taking the lead through an own goal from Sociadad defender Inigo Martinez. The game was end to end and could have gone either way, however, Manchester United prevailed and managed to pull away with a win.   CSKA Moscow vs Manchester City - Manchester City were looking for an instant response after an embarrassing defeat against Bayern Munich in the last round. Before the game there were concerns about the pitch in Moscow. CSKA Moscow were playing in the Khimki arena and the groundsmen had to spray paint the pitch green. The game started horribly for Manchester City as they went behind from a Tosic goal. The response was almost instant as Sergio Aguero bagged a first half brace. Manuel Pellegrini heaped praise on his side stating “I’m very happy, the result was important to the team.” However the game was overshadowed after racist chanting was directed at Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure. This has been a growing concern in Russia. During the game Yaya Toure reported the incident to the referee   who was unable to do anything about it. After the game Toure stated “I’m very disappointed about what those fans have done, I think that UEFA  has to take action because players with the same coloured skin will always be in the same position.” Overall there were a range of different incidents that happened during the third round of the Champions League. However, many of the English teams were successful with every team winning but Arsenal. The following shows the other results around the Champions league groups: Group A  Manchester United 1-0 Real Sociadad Bayer 04 Leverkusen 2-1 Shakhtar Donetsk   Group B  Real Madrid 2-1 Juventus Galatasaray 3-1 FC Copenhagen   Group C  Benfica 1-1 Olympiakos RSC Anderlecht 0-5 Paris Saint Germain   Group D  CSKA Moscow 1-2 Manchester City Bayern Munich 5-0 Victoria Plzen   Group E FC Schalke 04 0-3 Chelsea Steaua Bucharest 1-1 Basel   Group F  Aresenal 1-2 Borussia Dortmund Marseille 1-2 Napoli   Group G FC Porto 0-1 Zenit St Petersburg FK Austria Vienna 0-3 Atletico Madrid   Group H Celtic 2-1 Ajax Milan 1-1 Barcelona

Calls For Betting Apps To Be Limited

Calls For Betting Apps To Be Limited

betting-slipBetting on football is a massive market for a variety of different bookmakers. People across the UK bet on the football on a regular basis and it has become a growing concern amongst a vast range of football fans in the UK. Many people use different methods to place their bets. Many people go into the bookies and place their bets, however, the occurrence of betting apps have significantly reduced the amount of people going into bookies and has seen a rise in the amount of gambling addictions in the UK.

Many people have called for a limit on online betting as many people have admitted that their addiction has got to the point where it has been spiraling out of control. This has lead to a survey being conducted about gambling by support group Gamcare. The Gamcare support group found out that 63 percent of gamblers were aged between the ages of 16 and 35. At total of 5552 people out of 8813 people who called Gamcare were between the ages of 16-35 and this has caused many to call for limits on betting apps. The helpline also found out that many kept their gambling habits a secret which has caused concerns for a lot of gambling addiction awareness groups

There is no doubt that gambling apps need to crack down on their usage. It is extremely easy to place a wide range of different bets. When you walk into a shop you are physically handing over money which is makes you feel as though your moneys gone. However, this physical connection is not apparent when betting via an app.

Overall, it will be interesting to see what restrictions come in if any. The use of betting via an app is a growing problem.  It is clear to see that this must be addressed and it is up to the gambling companies to crack down on this by incorporating a wide variety of limits for people aged between 18-35.

Yaya Toure Subject Of Racism

Yaya Toure Subject Of Racism

kick_racism_out1Terrible scenes occurred during the Champions League this week as Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure was the subject of racist abuse. Manchester City were playing CSKA Moscow in the Champions League when sections of the CSKA support started racially abusing the Ivory Coast international. This has become a growing issue in Russia with a variety of player being the subject of racial abuse. This is especially worrying as the 2018 world cup is being held in Russia.

Many countries across Europe have cracked down on racism and countries such as the UK, Germany, Italy, and France have all run successful anti racism campaigns which has seen significant decreases in racial abuse. A survey from the director of Moscow Bureau stated that 50% of Russians have displayed some type of  racist behavior at some stage. This is no excuse, and it is clear to see that the Russian Football association needs to crack down on this type of behavior. However, the task ahead is big and there are a lot of Russians that need to be convinced.

Many players have warned to boycott the 2018 world cup if the country fails to adopt an anti racism campaign. Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has urged the Russian FA to crack down on the “Unbelievable”  scenes that he witnessed on Wednesday night. Toure said that he was “Furious” about the abuse and during the game he reported the incident to the referee.

CSKA Moscow have dismissed the racism claim stating that “Having carefully studying the video of the game we found no racist insults from the fans of CSKA.”  CSKA’s response has gone down considerable badly with fans of Manchester City. Many of the City fans heard the racism on Wednesday night. The case has been noticed by UEFA and will be dealt with by the UEFA control and disciplinary body on the 30th of October and it will be interesting to see how severely CSKA Moscow are charged.

El Classico Preview

El Classico Preview

jadwal-el-clasico-2013-2014Probably one of the biggest games in the world is taking place this weekend, with Barcelona facing Real Madrid at the Nou Camp. Both teams face a fierce rivalry, with a lot of different controversies. In celebration of the El Classico we have created a list of the top four El Classico moments in recent history:

Luiz Figo Returns to Barcelona

Luiz Figo was one of the Barcelona’s best players in the late 90′s and was loved by all of the Catalonia fans. However, in 2000 Figo made a €60 million transfer to fierce rivals Real Madrid. This extremely hurt fans of Barcelona as Figo was a hero for them.  The most heated return to Barcelona was in 2002. Figo had previously decided against taking corners against Barcelona, however, in 2002 Figo resumed his dead ball duties. This resulted in a dead pig being thrown at the Portuguese international.

Ronaldinho Masterclass

In 2005 Ronaldinho was arguably one of the worlds greatest players. Ronaldinho was Barcelona’s main man and the El Classico was the perfect stage for the Brazilian to show his magic to the world. Barcelona beat Real Madrid 3-0 at the Bernabeu with Ronaldinho scoring a brace in the game, with one goal seeing him dazzle the opposition with his sublime skill. Ronaldinho will be forever remembered for that goal which shook the world.

6-2 Thumping

Barcelona went to the Bernabeu in 2009 with a new manager and a cult hero in Pep Guardiola. Real Madrid had caught Barcelona up in La Liga which intensified the occasion. However, the game was extremely one sided with Barcelona beating Real Madrid by a resounding 6 goals to 2. The game was one of Barcelona’s most convincing wins in the El Classico, as they beat Madrid in their own backyard.

Ronaldo vs Messi

Both Real Madrid and Barcelona have two of the worlds greatest players playing for them. Both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are the worlds greatest players with both performing above and beyond on a regular basis. Both player are at the top of their game and both are hugely influential for their chosen teams. This weekend it will be interesting to see which one of these shine, as both have the job of leading their teams to victories, and it will be great to see how they all perform on Saturday night.
