Premiership new boys Hull City have recently changed their name to Hull City Tigers. The inhabitants of the KC Stadium have recently jumped back to the Premiership after 3 years of Championship football. Hull who are commonly known as the Tigers are seemingly following in Cardiff City’s recent re-brand. Cardiff who also got promoted to the Premiership last year changed their kit and logo in order to freshen up their image. It seems Hull are following the trend with their recent change in name. Hull City Chairman Assem Allam told the Hull Daily Mail, “In the commercial world the shorter the name the better” , “My dislike for the word City is because it is common and I want the club to be special”. Allem is a multi-millionaire businesses man and took control of Hull in 2010 after their relegation. Only time will tell if the name sticks however, it is clear that the City of Hull is extremely excited about the forthcoming season.

The start of the Premiership season is about to immanent, with the Charity Shield getting underway this weekend. The whole nation is gripped after a summer without Premiership action. Last season Arsenal finished 4th after a dramatic end to the season. Gaining 4th spot enabled Arsenal to enter the Qualifying stages of the Champions League. The Champions League is arguably the biggest competition in European football and the fact that Arsenal beat rivals Tottenham for 4th spot made it that more sweet for the Arsenal fans.

The Champions League qualifying draw has been made with Arsenal facing Fenerbahce. Fenerbahce are one of Turkeys top teams and Arsenal will definitely not find the tie easy. Fenerbahce are renowned for their hostile crowd and Arsenal won’t find it easy playing there. However, Arsenal will fancy their chances as they look to improve on last years “last 16 place”.

Scottish Champions Celtic have also been draw in the champions league against Kazakstan champions Shakhter Karagandy. Celtic have an emotional attachment with the Champions League after beating European giants Barcelona last year.

Brazil Claim Their Third Consecutive Fifa Confederations Cup

172029102Five-time world champions Brazil ended Spain’s 29-match competitive unbeaten record and signalled their intent ahead of next summer’s World Cup with a convincing 3-0 victory over the reigning World champions. History was against Vicente Del Bosque’s Spanish side. Brazil have not lost a competitive match on home soil since 1975 and you have to go back to 1934 to find the last time Spain had beaten them in a competitive match, home or away.

Fred scored twice, but Neymar yet again stole the show, scoring Brazil’s second goal with a fearsome left footed blast. On the night nothing went Spain’s way and even when they won a penalty as Marcelo flicked a leg at substitute Jesus Navas, Ramos pulled his shot tamely wide, much to the delight of the Maracana. With 22 minutes to go Gerard Pique was sent off after he took down Neymar as the last man to cap off a miserable evening for the defending World Cup champions.

At the final whistle, the Brazil fans proudly chanted ‘the champions are back’. The streets around the Maracana Stadium was a place of contrasts. While protestors clashed with police a mile or so away, tens of thousands of Brazil fans danced in the streets.
